Filled up today, on the way home the water in fuel light came on. Looked in tech folder for help and it says -
4. Allow the HFCM to drain for approximately 25 seconds or until clean fuel is observed. A very full fuel tank will cause the HFCM to drain fuel until tank is low enough for flow to stop
First time for me draining this thing, but I am not going to drain gallons of fuel to accomplish this. btw - 1.96 here in KC today.
no, drain the HFCM just until you get clean diesel not until it stops on it's own, wasting a gallon of fuel is cheaper than water getting past the seperator and causing damage to the injectors. you will not be draining off gallons, more like a quart.
What is everyone doing with the old watery fuel? Do you dump in an old oil container and recycle with you old oil??
And no I am not with the EPA or Tree Hugger of America!!
I drained mine this morning and now have that lovely diesel smell! I love it in some sick way! Anyways, I usually put my fuel in containers to recycle with motor oil. Sometimes I just dump in the yard somewhere.... sssshhhhh!
Don't become alarmed if the light comes back on soon after draining the HFCM. I've found that it sometimes takes a flush instead of a drain to clear the sensor in the HFCM. What I do is pull the drain plug and let it drain, plug it back up and run the engine for a few seconds and repeat about three times.
If you have a 4X4 you will need a standard "L"-shaped allen wrench to get the plug out because the front drive shaft runs right in front of the plug and limits access.
