Angry EGR Or DPFE

I have a 99 mazda b2500 and a few weeks ago the check engine light came on with the code p0402 excessive exhaust gas recirculation or something like that. I replaced the EGR valve, reset the computer and everything was fine...no more check engine light and the truck ran great. Yesterday on my way home from work the check engine light came on again and it reads the same code p0402! The guy at the parts store said the new one could have stuck open. That thing is a pain to replace so i guess my question is should i take the new one off and replace it or should i look at the dpfe sensor first. I just want to know where to begin. Any help would be appreciated........Thanks, also i am planning a trip out of town this weekend pulling my boat. Should i take care of this before i leave or could it wait until i get back.

Is your DPFE sensor metal or plastic? If it is metal I would recomend replacing that first, especially since you just replaced the egr valve and the code still came back. The metal ones are known to go bad quite early and the replacement part is plastic and is longer lasting. I would try to get this taken care of before towing your boat. When my DPFE went bad on my truck, i thought i had lost a cylinder. It was a pretty substantial loss of power.
