Blower fan

Blower fan stopped working when the switch is set to the first three positions, but the last position (high) it will work fine. I replaced the switch and that didn't help. Looking for help, or a wiring diagram for 98 F-150. Any suggestions?

The blower switch resistor is probably corroded. This resistor is a separate part from the switch and is located under the passenger side dash area. It's located behind (not inside) the black plastic shield, very close to the upper part of the floorboard. Look for a brown, fiberboard-like piece about 2/3 the size of a credit card, with a four-wire harness plugged into it. It's attached to a metal brace with two bolts. Undo the bolts and the harness, pull the resistor out and look at it. You will see four silver coils that are attached to the fiberboard. If any of the coils are broken and/or corroded, you have the culprit. I replaced one last year on my '99 Expedition. Not expensive, I think $15-$20.

The clue that it's the resistor is the fact that the fan is still working at the highest fan speed. Under those circumstances, the resistor is bypassed.

Thanks for the info. You were right on the money on this one. The resistor pack was rusted.
