The Super Duty is a truck which can pull, and carry heavy weights. Its also a truck used for a grocery getter, and other daily purposes. My question is:Why doesent Ford give us a 2 speed rear end option? It seems to me we would have a wider range of gearing for the task at hand.
....Just a thought guys.
Thanks,Ron

I have had the same thoughts. Years ago they used a lot of 2 speed are they still available on larger trucks? I think it would be a great option. Is it possible to get something like that in after market?
The 2-speed rears I've seen would be way too big for our size trucks. These were on F-600's and F-700's. (Or were they 650's and 750's in the 1962 to 1982 year models?)
Since a two-speed rear end would only work for rear wheel drive only vehicles, you would also need the same setup for the front axle in 4wd vehicles. Maybe a better option would be a two (or 3?) speed transfer case or secondary transmission. This would work for either rear- or four-wheel drive vehicles. You could have low, tow and high or something like that.....
Another interesting place to look is, www.usgear.com or just search on Google or other search engine for, Dual Range Auxiliary Transmissions. These are available in OverDrive or UnderDrive and work just like a 2-speed axle.
