hi--
just got a 96 bronco and the rear window just quit working--in the down position. the inside switch doesn't work, nor does the key. it's definately not the fuse because the other power windows work fine. any ideas what to check? or why it would suddenly quit working? thanks!
eric
The power feed for the rear glass is in no way linked to the other two windows. Circuit breakers 12 and 14 are the TWO power feeds for the rear window motor. Since its not working at either location I doubt its either of the CB's anyway. Its more likely a stalled or dead motor or something blocking the glass itself or the regulator. Follow the RED LINK in my signature. There are at least two very thorough tailgate/rear window links listed in the Big Bronco FAQ's there.
Before you spend a lot of time (like I did) check and make sure the plastic bushings are on the “jambs” on both sides of the tailgate. They probably should be on the doors also. Mine were missing on both sides of the tailgate and missing on both doors. I wrapped them with electrical tape (to make the diameter bigger) and the tailgate window worked great. I also wrapped the doorjambs with electrical tape and they don’t rattle anymore. I already had removed the tailgate motor and tested it. I already cleaned the gears and the slides and relubed them. I discovered the fix by opening the tailgate and closing the latch (like the tailgate is closed) on the driver’s side manually. The window did not work but if I pushed harder on the latch then the window worked so I figured if I made the latch larger in diameter then it should work and it did. Just my experience. (I had previously hot-wired the motor so I knew it was good.) Important: make sure you open the manually closed latch before you close the tailgate or the tailgate will jam closed and be a bugger to reopen (I did it twice).
