Idiot lights in disguise, once they reach normal they don't move again until an extremely high temp is reached, which is too late for most people. Search for gauges and I'm sure you'll find a few of my posts where the actual temps are recorded that are required for the gauges to go to "H".
Normal as far as operation of the stock gauge yes, normal as far as wwhat you need to know about the trans fluid waaaay no!
I have been at numerous focus groups where Ford asked what do you want, a trans gauge was a very sought after item so they added one. The problem is the factory gauge is an idiot light hooked to a needle. It actually warms up before the coolant does, needle wise, way wrong etc. It goes to the same exact location and stays there unless it sees 230+ degrees, then it goes to the yellow location, I can't imagine what them the fluid is at the red zone.
Moral to the story get a trans gauge if you tow any significant weights, you will be amazed at how much the fluid temps vary on it especially as compared to the stock one.
Excuse my possible ignorance, but is a tranny temp guage as necessary in a manual as in a automatic? Thinking of going with an A-pod guage system but have this question.

I believe the red zone means your truck would be on fire....
I'm installing gauges this weekend and hope to see the 'cool' temps others have posted here from their TorqShifts. They all seem to run fairly cool.
