RPM's drop to zero for a few seconds while driving!!
88 F-150 4x4 with 302 V8 55-speed 120K miles.
Just today I was driving home at 55 mph in 5th gear, when the rpm's dropped to zero and the engine sounded like it died, but it came right back within a couple seconds. A few miles later it did it again at 35 mph. It's got newer cap, rotor, plug wires, and plugs. When I got home I left the truck running and wiggled every harness and wire I could get my hands on, but nothing caused it to happen again. This never happened before today.
Any ideas?? Bad gas?? What would be so intermittent?

Randy, check and make sure all your ground connection are good and tight. Then have the ignition module tested. these things are noted for causing all kinds of problems.

You prolly got a bad PCM on your hands! I know every FORD with a factory tach that ever did that for me, it was the computer that was bad. The funny thing is that you get a code that says PIP was missing, and, turns out not being the pick-up coil or the module being the problem. One good tip would be to change the PIP & module yourself, because if you don't, you can bet the shop you bring it to will before they try a new PCM at you cost!

My 89 did the same thing and it turned out to be corroded wires at the engine control relay. Bought a pigtail at Ford for 12 bucks and replaced the corroded wires. No more problem.
