Im still having a problem when starting my 95 F150 on the front gas tank. It has the 300. When I start it on the rear tank it starts fine. Its only been doing it when the engine is cold. Fuel filter, cap, rotor, plugs wires are only a year old. I cleaned the throttle body too. After it starts and I drive it then there is no problem, it runs great. When I start it when its warm, its fine. I've tried leaving the key on to hear the fuel pump which I can hear then starting it with the same results it stalls or doesn't fire the first time. The second time it usually starts and sometimes you have to give it a bit of gas to keep it going for a few seconds. I thought maybe it was the fuel pump, but won't it be doing it all the time while driving it? Its almost like its not getting enough fuel on start up. I tried fuel injector cleaner too. Should I try and pull codes? I've never done that before. Any help is great thanks, Fred
Check your fuel pump. It might not be carrying enough pressure to prime it on startup. I've had them go bad and only carry 15-20 PSI and the truck wont run at all if its cold. It will run crappy when its warm and cut out.
You can get a Shrader valve fuel pressure tester at almost any autoparts store. I don't think autozone will 'loan' one but it couldn't hurt to ask if you have a store near you.
Mine starts up when cold and stalls, but once it warms up it's fine and you can shut it off and start it right back up no problem. I think on mine it is the idle air valve sticking. I'll get a new one and report back.
