I was checking the front parking lights on my truck. The chrome bezel holding the lens on sure doesn't seem to fit tight? I'm sure it's an aftermarket bracket, as it's pretty flimsy. The light bulb housing is mounted by two sheet metal screws from underneath? Is this the way the parking lights are suppose to be? or are they suppose to be flush with the headlight and lower valance? Come to think of it, the lens doesn't even line up correctly with the headlight?
Mine are exactly as you describe. As far as I can tell, that's the way they all are. I plan to rework mine for less gap to the gravel pan and grill headlight buckets, then paint them. If I screw them up, I'll just but new ones as they aren't very expensive. The fixture below with the sheet metal screws, the lens and its gasket are all pretty cheesy.
The only Parking Light Covers (bezels) available are supposed to fit both 55 and 56. Unfortunately, the 55 has a round headlight bucket and the 56 has a flat on the bottom. So, on a 56, there's a big gap at the top of the bezel. On both trucks, the fit to the gravel pan isn't very good either. I haven't seen any other F100 with a better fitting setup.
I eliminated them, rounded off the bottom grille and made some stealth lights. Really cleans up the grille area although it's hard to improve on a '56 grille
