PI intake question

will a 99-03 mustang 4.6 PI intake hook up with the stock hoses and wiring on a '97 f-50 4.6? I am putting a 02 mustang 4.6 in my truck and I am just trying to figure out the intake I am going to use.

i don't think it will. plus the intake elbow and air intake goes out to the pass side. on a truck the elbow goes to the front and air intake goes to drivers side. you sould be able to make it work. you can relocate the battery to the bed and lenthen the maf and air temp sensor to the pass side. the only problem that i could not find an easy answer to was the egr.

i think that the 4.6 intake on the truck will fit a 4.6 mustang but i am unsure. if you have a way to check the casting numbers on the heads to see if they match. that may be a start.

ahall8 - Since you are putting car engine in your truck, you should find a PI truck intake. As furrby indicated, there are a number of differences between the intakes of a car and truck and it would take some work and fabrication to make the mustang intake work in your truck.

But the bigger reason why you want a truck intake is b/c it is designed (longer runners) to produce more power and torque lower in the RPM range than a mustang. You need as much torque down low to get the heavy truck moving. If you made the mustang intake work, I think you'd be really unhappy b/c the truck would be a huge dog off the line.

found an intake from a 00 150 4.6 w/ PI heads locally for $100 sound good to you guys? I went to the dealer and they wanted over $700 for the setup of upper and lower, but they could not tell me which year they switched over to the PI heads so if anyone knows I'd be interested.

$100 isn't bad. I've gotten them cheaper on eBay, but you have to be patient.

So I got my PI intake for the conversion and it ended up being off a mustang so there was a coolant sensor that they don't use and the hoses and lines were completely changed. I went to my buddy that works at the machine shop and took my old 97 intake which has a much taller deck for him to see what could be done. Since the non PI intake has smaller more circular ports they can be machined out to a much closer mach, but it will not be exact as the walls are thinner on the older aluminum intake than the newer plastic version. All in all they will end up being slightly smaller ports than the matching PI heads but it should be real close. Does this sound good to any of you out there? I figure that this way at least I'll keep my low end power and nothing will have to be jerry rigged on there.

ahall8 - you don't want the mustang intake b/c you'll loose your low end torque.

Port matching your non-PI intake isn't a bad idea. If you look at the pictures of the two intakes I took, there is essentially no difference between the PI and non-PI, except the shape of the ports where they bolt to the heads.

Ted you are the man!! That picture is priceless to me right now. I think that I am making the right choice by having my old one port matched. I'll let you know how it turns out but for what the dealer wants for a new one $400 (Just lower) and that I can't find one right now on ebay I think it might be my best option.
