Recommendations for new '86 F250 Engine Performance
Hi everyone. I am new to the list and already appreciate all the knowledge I have gained here. I just bought a 1986 F250 4x4, automatic, 351W. The engine is running very rich and likes to stall a lot. I just replaced the dustrbiutor cap, rotor, spark plugs, wires, and ignition coil. Current palns include a new engine coolant temperature sensor, O2 sensor, and air temperature sensor, and adjusting ignition timing. I have two questions. First, I am not sure of the status of the emissions control systems. The air injection belt was missing when I bought the truck and the guy said there was a component of it that was broken. I probably will replace the belt and see what happens. Any suggestions about this? Secondly, what other things could I do to cause the engine to run leaner? I have read a little about carb tuning and I will probably try to do that next. Any recommendations here? Thanks!

Ok , Which do you have ...Carb or Efi ? You mentioned a few Efi sensors but later mentioned a carb . Find out the cause of the stalling before you spend a ton of money on things you dont have to . Let us know .

Recommendations for new '86 F250 Engine Performance
It is a carbureted engine but it seems that this engine has some rudimentary emissions control sensors such as O2 sensors, etc. Is this not true? The problem is that the shop manuals avaiable cover every ford truck from 1980 to 1996 and does not say which components are no which years/models. So, this leaves me very confused. Where can I locate all the components located on my truck? Thanks!
