Another question? I have a 1991 f350 with factory air. The person that owned it before retro installed R134 is it necessary to change the dryer (accumulator) from a R12 system to a R134 system? And if so what year should I ask for?

Is/was big debate about this.
The safest bet is to say yes, replace the drier & the Schrader.
Same year, just a 134 system.
But I don't understand.
If system has been was changed over by previous owner, why would you need to change drier now? Wasn't this done at time of chageover?

No it was not changed over. Neither was the pressure switch, every thing is still R12 except the freon.

I did mine without changing anything but the oil in the compressor and the charge fittings. Still works fine two years later. If money is no object, change it. It will probably cool a little better.

On of my friends worked on it about 2 years and it was blowing out cold air but now the air is getting warmer.

How much would a shop charge to convert from R12 to R134 without changing the drier? Is there a way I could drain the freon and fill it back up with one of those recharge kits?

I just priced an acumulator at Auto Zone and it was $30.00. Around here in Houston
shops charge $25.00 plus freon.
