Ok,I have a 65 f-100 sb w/390ci & c-6 & am going to install a 3.70 gear on 31 spline axles . Going to install a mini spool what one do I get alum. one or steel one ? And good place to get gears .
Are you sure you want a spool? if your just drag racing, never to turn again, id say go for it, but its gonna destroy you handleing and tires too. although i guess with small tires it wouldnt be as bad as with say 33x12.50s. id buy a detroit locker myself and be done with it. it will pay for itself in tires (over the spool) if nothing else.
but anyway, id say go steel, as any weight savings will probably be given up in strength on an aluminum peice. as for a place to get gears you're on your own! im in canada, so that dont help.
Really the handling isnt that bad with a spool except for in slick conditions...i'm not saying that it doensnt affect it at all but not as bad as people say. The tire wear however is an issue if driven on the street. I would go with the steel one also.
