R & R a windshield
well i need to replace the the windshield in my truck it started out a tiny crack and in about 95 degree heat split the windshield in half so i removed it all the quotes i got for it were in the 300.00 range i just don't have that much to spend right now i can buy one for 118.00 is it really hard to install one your self the gasket was a pain to remove and do you use windshield sealer.

Windshields are very easy to put in on these trucks. You removed the plastic lockstrip 1st right? Why was it hard to get the gasket out? You can use a little sealer but I don't recall if it was necessary or not.

plastic lock strip what? i didn't know there was a plastic lock strip the crome molding i removed first but the rubber was so hard it would not budge it is the original 30 year old gasket and the gasket was rotted so i used a razor blade and cut it and poped it out.well when i removed it there was this thick tar substance on both sides of the truck like sealer.

Plastic lock strip LOL, what I meant was the chrome rubber molding strip. I was tired when I posted that last night. It looks like you will need a new gasket then. That tar substance is called a ribbon sealer, 3M makes that and it is available at almost all auto parts stores.
