Part ID needed

Yesterday, as I was adding fresh Mobil 1 to the crankcase, I looked over at the coil and noticed what looked like a capacitor mounted to a bracket. It had one lead with a connector. As the wire came out of the top of this capacitor lookin' thing, I saw that some of the wire insulation was missing and that the bare wire was bent over and touching the outside case of the this part that I need ID'd. Some of the wires were frayed to the point that only a few were still attached. I wrapped a small piece of black tape around the exposed wire and bent it back up so it wouldn't be hanging over the edge. Any idea what this part is and what purpose does it have??

Sounds like a condesor, that is a part that cancels out unwanted electronic noise from messing with your radio and other other electric stuff on the truck.

Yeah, you may be right since it's mounted very close to the coil. My manual doesn't mention that part at all. Thanks.

Broncoroadkill is right. Condensor. Cheap and easy to replace. Comes with the wire.
