tapping high beam power

I installed some driving (not fog) lights on my 99 a while back and am looking for the best spot to hook up a relay to have them cut on/off with the high beams (still keeping th switch for "completely off"). thanks.

Any out of the way non high heat place is fine.
Usually want to place relay as close to battery (power source) as possible, be certain to use large gauge wire.

Hmm, maybe I wasn't clear (or I don't understand). I already have the lights on and powered (hooked directly to the battery). I just to put in the relay to complete the circuit when desired.

I'm not looking for a location to mount the relay, I'm looking for a place to tap into the high beam wire to activate the relay (unless someone has a better suggestion). It seems all but the last inch of wire going to the headlight socket is heavily wrapped/guarded. It's possible to tap in there, but I'd rather not. Thanks again.

You could use a fuse tap on fuse 16 under the dash.

Thanks racerguy, never heard of a fuse tap, but I'll see what I can come up with. Seems like a better idea anyway as I'd like to keep the wiring factory.

Just found it on jc whitney. Exactly what I need. Now if Autozone actually has it in stock I'll be set.

Well, went and got me some fuse taps from Radio Shack(none of the 4 parts store had them). They would have been perfect, but when I got home I realized this truck has the mini fuses. Please send $1.49 plus tax to reimburse me (j/k-plus I can use them on my Rabbit for the same purpose). I ended up using some 16 gauge wire pushed in with the fuse for now. It actually works really well, but I found some similar options online (fuses with pigtails) for a permanent solution. Problem solved-Thanks again.

You must have some pretty lame parts stores there if they didn't have fuse taps. Even way up here in Canada our stores have them
Good thing you didn't use the bigger fuse taps with your mini fuses.
I've seen people do that and it destroys the fuse terminals
