not to long back i posted about having air bubbles in my tranny fluid.i had the tranny fluid checked by a mechanic and they said it looked fine and bubbles doesnt nesecarly mean anything bad. ok now with that said,
i have been noticing the tranny somtimes shifting hard and othr times shifting smooth.today it felt like it went into overdirve when i was cruising at 30-40 mph but the over drive was off.(at the end of shift lever). i stepped on the accelerator to get it to downshift and it did but it felt liked it shutterd/vibrated rite bfore it downshifted. any ideas ? its a 96 with a 351w. im not sure of the tranny.
thanks
You should have and E4od from the OD button comment. Were you towing when you had the OD off? The transmission may have a few issues, I don't remember how many miles or if you said how many. There are a couple of excellent anti-shudder addatives out there that work well from past experience. Slick 50 has one as does Lucas. I've had friends use both with desirable results. Just remember there isn't and never will be a "rebuild in a bottle".
It's an E4od. Mine has 250, 560 on it. Last leg, probalby not. Have you ever had it serviced, flushed and filter changed? Shudder that I have seen has come from the torque converter and if any pump vanes are broken, well thats a broken part. Some shudder can come from many points in an automatic transmission from friction drive parts to fluid cavitation. With 176K on it, if it has never been serviced there are different trains of thought. Many feel that if you flush and service the tranny now, it will fail soon, and they are supported by experience gained the hard way. I have had the tranny flushed and filter changed every 60k as a manner of preventive maintenance. Only you can make that call and it may cost you the service and a rebuild after that, I don't know. I've always felt that changing the oil in a tranny was like changing engine oil, maintenance for longevity. Get some more opionions and take it to a good national chain transmission shop for an inspection, one you trust. The '94 and newer E4od had all the upgrades. I'd probably have it serviced. Your call.
i just bough the truck back in december. i dont know the previous owner so i dont know if it has been changed. i do know the fluid is still red and looks clean but thier are bubbles present in the fluid.
i have also read that changing fluid and flushing can cause failure in a tranny that hasnt ever been serviced.
i dont trust the tranny shops around here and im not a mechanic so i was really hoping to find an answer here. i know i will have to make the final desision.
thank you, youve ben a great help.any more oppinons wouldnt hurt either.
