Anyone have any idea where I can get replacement interior replacement plastic pieces that go above the windows that hold the headliner, and the center panel that holds the radio. I bought a truck from the U.S. Government and it is bone stock. It only has the bare essentials.
Also I found out that it is an '81 but has brakes from '80. It was difficult trying to fix my brakes because the brakes didn't match the year of my truck. Is this something that happens often with Military procured vehicles?
If you are looking for replacement parts, you will probably have to find them in a salvage yard. I have run into similar probs with my 1990 F-150. I want to return it to "like new" condition, but there just isn't any demand for repro replacement parts for anything above a 1979, and the 73-79 replacement parts have only recently begun to appear.
I hope somebody else can help you more- too bad "late model restoration" hasn't become a hobby, huh?

check out the local junkyards. My 83 was bone stock and after searching for awhile I was able to come up with a complete XLT interior which really looks nice. Also check the early 80's full size Broncos, as their interior is pretty much the same as the pickups. You should be able to get the radio face plate from the junkyard also. I found a complete wood grained panel for for the radio, instrument panel and the door panels,fit right in. Call around and see if there are any junkyards that specialize in pickups. You should be able to locate just about anything you need. J.C, Whitney also carries replacement door panels if you need them. Good luck with your search.
We have a saying around my neck of the woods. "Always remember - your weapons are produced by the lowest bidder." If you think about that and all that it implies, it answers a lot of questions. When the hummers first came in they were supposedly accepted without any kind of QC, and there was nothing but problems with them especially in the P/S pump department. Now there's a new generation of them on deck and it's P/S problems again and cooling systems like it's cool.
