transmission type

I have a 1988 full sized xlt bronc, 4x4 351w, auto, a/c and need to know what type of tranny I have. (C4-5-6 etc. ) door jam tag says tranny is K. How do I tell so I can add the correct fluid to it.

Is it 4 or 3 speed?
I think in that year they came with either a c6 3speed or the E40D 4speed.
C4 was a 2wd truck option in ealier years. And the C5 was a car tranny.

You have the C-6. Great tranny just don't expect pass many gas stations.

Thanx...now I can add fluid. It's been leaking fluid. I had the shop check it out and for $140 they fixed it for 2 weeks. Leaking again now, about a quart every 4 days! Doesnt seem to be the pan gasket. Shop said it was blowing out the top and replaced a seal. Filter perhaps?
about the gas...getting about 10 mpg....ouch!

10 mpg...I guess I should feel lucky. I'm getting 12 mpg. But I take it easy on the go pedal.

Trans leaking out the top? I think there is a vent on top but what would cause it to leak from there, dunno.
