During the winter I drove from IL to AR and it was not until I reached AR that the Termperature for my trans gauge went above 100*. Now that it closer to summer, my gauge goes to 160* in about 20 to 30 minutes depending on how heavy a foot I had. So far I have not seen it go above 160*-170*.
There was a post somewhere on here stating to put it in one hole as opposed to another to register the tranny heat. But yeah, drive it further and you'll probably get it to register.
thankx... only one problem... i don't have any long trips planed till i tow next weekend, and it is supposed to rain EVERYDAY this coming week, so i may not find out if it is working till i start towing...! ugh...!
one nice thing... the pyro works real well... goes up when i step on it... goes down when i let up on the throttle... and the boost... i can hit 20 psi getting on it on an on ramp.. and that is running empty..! so much for mpg on this tank..!
ok steve250... how long do i have to run my mule unloaded to get the needle to move....? next.... the "qwik filter"... then a predator tuner... then... 4 or 5 inch exhaust sytem... turbo back...!
Unloaded, I can drive mine 10 miles city or 5 miles highway and the STOCK gauge will rise. Even a startup then idle raises the temp, I've felt it on the dip stick too.
My buddy's aftermarket gauges do it in the same time frame.
As I mentioned earlier, one of the gurus here said exactly where to put the probe.
Please don't take this as gospel as my mind is old and feeble, but I seem to remember it was the left front pan bolt hole. (?????) Ring any bells?
the location given in every set of instructions i have seen is in the drivers side of the tranny just above the second pan bolt... there is a plug that you remove and the sensor threads right in... easy except that plug was in tight..!
As with everything where a wire run or connection is made, check, doublecheck, triple, than check it again anyway. Perhaps find another way to gently heat up the probe to see if the gauge works. It's most likely something soooo simple that it was overlooked.
(hoping)
thanks... gonna check it with the multimeter when i get a chance this week... they do look good in the dark... except the pyro.. the led that lites the needle doesn't work... ugh... what's that old song.."if it weren't for bad luck i'd have no luck at all...."
With a gauge that starts at 100, I would think you should see some movement within 10 miles od the house, despite the OAT. Not having an automatic tranny I can't halp any more than that, other than suggesting you have momma sit in the comfy seat while you crawl underneath and hold a lighter to the thermocouple.....and recheck all wiring again.
i may have to have momma help with this test.. but.. i hate to do it... i don't want her to spend any more time in that seat than is ABSOLUTELY NEEDED...!
