On my 95 5.8 bronco engine there is a rectangular silver metal module with two silicone walled hoses connected to the bottom and a three wire connector that is plugged in at the front. This module is mounted next to the TB. I want to know if there is any way to test this sensor, I'm getting varying HEGO codes indicating a lean condition. This is a CA Bronco W/Mass so I have two O2 sensors, and the codes will go from bank 1 lean to bank 2 lean. Both O2 sensors are new, only about 6 months old. From what I'm able to find from my research is that a DPFE sensor can cause the O2 sensors to give a lean condition reading. I have checked for vaccum leaks and also checked the fuel rail pressure. Any help in this would be much appreciated
geezer, the DPFE Sensor replaces the EGR position sensor on the 95/96 Broncos. It senses EGR flow by measuring differential pressure in the EGR tube downstream of the valve itself. If you are not throwing any EGR or DPFE codes it is unlikely that this is your culprit. I recently went through the exact scenario you are describing. After a couple of frustrating weeks of looking I found a upper to lower intake manifold gasket leak in the very back of the manifold. With the engine running and warm, take a can of Throttle body cleaner and squirt it at the upper to lower intake mating surface. Work your way slowly around the manifold. If the idle changes suddenly when you spray a spot, wait for it to settle out, then spray that same area again. If the idle changes again, you have found the problem. When I pulled my upper plenum, there were pieces of the gasket completely missing. Not sure what happened or why, but that was the source of all my problems.
