Yep! Fishy! I just had the same thing happen when I listed my Ranger for sale. Except this time it was an attorney acting on behalf of a widow in Africa who needed to invest the money in the US so that she can somehow claim what was in her millionaire husband's will...did that make any sense?
I had the same thing happen to me when I was trying to sell my drum set. Someone from England was to send me $1500, and I was to deduct the price of the drums and shipping expenses, and wire him back the rest. After about the 3rd-4th Email between us, I never heard from him again. I will only deal locally now, or arrange for a face-to-face meeting.

You were taking up too much of his time for the small amount of money he could have ripped you off for. He's going on to easier marks or bigger money makers. I'm sure you have a nice drum set, but I'm also sure there are drum sets to buy in the UK as well. I would think that you would have to have something so unusual or hard to find where they are, that someone would go through all that trouble and expence to buy it from another country and have it shipped to them.
I have an engine and transmission for sale. A guy from holland wishes to purchase it. The clincher is he wants his ex-biz partner in canada to send me 3500, then I am to deduct the cost of the engine, it's various bits, and shipping. Then wire him the rest.. This sounds like a scam, but he's trying to tell me it's legit. I'm smellin' fish.......
that is a 100% internet scam . take the email and send the full email to abuse or webmaster at his isp and if you listed it on ebay to them .. ebay has a specail area for such things and goes after the person hook line and sinker
SCAM! I won a nice heavy duty like new roll bar off ebay from a guy in PA. for $31.00, he said he wanted $100.00 to ship it to WA. since it was a bulky item. I said kinda spendy but ok since i wanted it, i sent him a good check for 131.00. He gets the check then he says he wont take the bar to UPS because he dont have time and they want another 100.00 to come and pick it up out in the country where he lives but he wants me to send another $100?! I said no forget it and send me my money back, he sent me a check from his landscape business account 3 weeks later. I try to cash the check and the account is closed and he wont respond back either! he is not a registered user on ebay anymore anyone know a guy who calls himself docktor lawn??? SCAMMER!
Wait a minute, I'm slower than molasses most days, but why can't you deposit the check in your bank, wait till it clears, and confirm with your bank that the money is good and will stay in your account?
I understand, that if you received a check on Monday, deposited it the same day, and shipped the engine and mailed the excess funds back to the buyer that day or the next day, you are likely to find that the check never cleared three days later. What is stopping you from holding the engine until the check clears?
Sounds like a possible scam all the way, I would have fun with it and work with the police or FBI, CIA, and see what happens.
You can do as you say and wait but wait at least two weeks since most banks are slower than molasses when it comes to out of state or country checks. It took the bank that tried to clear that check i got two and half weeks to find out the account was closed!? stupid people! The cops really dont care either i have found with my experience, it doesnt matter to them unless they get the check. lol!

The title of this thread has prompted some interesting google ads at the end of the posts. Eliminate body odor, cure that underarm and foot odor. Herbal cures for Beeeeee Oooooooooh. I guess these automated ads aren't working as well as they should.
I agree its a polite way of ending it with out consiquences. I had a guy phone me once from accross country about a classic car I had for sale, the guy just wierded me out, something about him just didn't feel right, and as bad as I wanted to sell the car, I just finally told him it was sold just to get rid of him
After recieving his last email (still adamant about wanting me to wire him the remainder of $3500), I told him a local guy bought for more than we were asking.
