Can't Switch Fuel Tanks Properly

Hey guys, i'm new here. I have an '89 F-150 Lariat, 5.0 5-speed. I have had a problem ever since i bought it where hte front tank will get to a little below half a tank and the guage stops working (if i switch to the rear tank guage works properly). That was only a nuisance really but i'd like to fix that and i assume it's a bad sender?

But, a new problem has arisen. Last week i filled up both tanks. I was driving on the front tank alone...after about 350 miles running on my front tank i started wondering why it still showed about 3/4 of a tank left. I switched to the REAR tank, and the guage went down to about near empty. So i pulled into a gas station and filled up the rear tank with 15 gallons - so i know the guage was showing accurate, it was definitely empty. So i switched bacmk to the front tank, guage shows 3/4 of a tank...i drove like that for 2 days, switched to the rear tank and its' down to half a tank again??? So it seems like my truck has decided to stop using the front tank, even though the guage will reflect properly when i switched tanks it keeps sucking fuel from the rear. Anyone got any ideas?

Do a search of on dual fuel tanks. You'll find an abundance of threads discussing your issues.

I too have a truck that only feeds off the rear tank, only mine puts all the return fuel in the front tanks (another fairly common issue). I just haven't taken the time to fix it. I keep a syphon hose to move gas every once in a while. It's not my daily driver, so there are other things that are priorities right now.
