Well, it has been some time since I was able to work on the truck (back injury) but I am good to go now.....I hope. My question is this, can I install the engine into the frame with the front fenders and such off and then reinstall the fenders with the engine in the frame. Hee hee, now that I have written this it seems like a stupid question but...there it is anyway. I am sure someone here has experienced this "procedure". Just curious how it went.
Actually, that seems like the ideal way to do it. It'd give you more room to work on things. If your fenders are on now though, dont bother removing them as it is a major PITA. I had to put new inner fenders in mine, and let me tell you, if they're not rusted out you're better off just leaving well enough alone.

Thanks Rusty. Actually the "inner" part of the fenders is in bad shape, all beat up and rusted some so I was planning on pulling them anyway. Now that you state they are a PITA, do you, or anyone else, have tips on dos and don'ts.
Do wear goggles, as rust is GOING to fall into your eye. A dustmask also helps keep grit out of your teeth. Do go get new fasteners, as you will break at least one spring clip. I just used the nut / bolt / 2 fender washers arrangement for most things. Do check your cab mounts while you're in there. They are much easier to replace if the fenders are out of the way. Do spray all the bolts, on both sides, with penetrating oil. I find brake fluid works best, just keep it away from paint you want to save.
Dont beat on anything with a sledge hammer. I know it becomes tempting, but dont.

Thanks Russ. Anzious to get back on the truck. The back is just a result of abuse in my younger days....sports....85' fall......etc etc. Really thought I was invulnerable back in the day, lol. Thanks for all the advise guys. Your the best.
