I have a bronco fullsize from 1990. last week i replaced the compressor with a brand new one. The A/C is working only the battery is losing his power and when i stand stil in D Position the care cannot controle the air and will stop running. then, after i turned off the A/C i cannot start the engine.
When i drive without A/C, no problem! in seconds he starts.
I cleand the airintake and placed a new battery. Still the same problem!

Sounds like to much pressure or a locked up clutch. If there is to much a\c pressure it will pull down the idle and kill the motor. Check your belts too. Had a '73 Lincoln MK4 that I recharged, I put in R12 till the 460 grunted and let some out(the days of no gauges and youth) so if I could grunt a 460...
I did not change the belt, i had the altenator check and is ok.
What happens is that when i am standing still the idling is not handling well, but that is after a few sec. In some raison he is getting low on air and start surging, then, to much flow and the engine is dead. then i can not start......it looks like the compresor is eating the energie of the battery. ok, now i will check the belt and look what will happen. I changed the wires off the battery too, it help, but still it take some time and he start idling again. What happens aswel is that when i give gas the airco changes the way he give air. Too much gas and the cold air is going to the window, little less gas and it will turn on your foot and hardly gas, when driving 40 mp, air blowing finaly in your face!
thanks you all, i am new and really like this site!
I would have the AC pressure checked by someone at an AC shop with gauges. Also sounds like you have some vacuum issues which can be tough to trace out. if you are not up to doing so I would recommend going to a shop and have them go thru it for you.
That is my trouble, i life on an island and there is non of one garage that can handle a normal car like mine. I believe so i have a vacuum trouble. The heater is gone of the car and took out the hoses. but there is a vacuum line in white and cut of. But when i look in the books.....there is no white line. All the rest of the lines are checked by myself, i am a a mechanic and fix my car self, that is what you have to do here in the caribbean. I noticed one more thing today.......when i use my powerwindows i see that the volt meter is going down.....? yesterday i installed a base speaker with power supplies but then there is no reaction on the battery?
when i drive without airco, he is like a horse and you cannot stop him!! the way i love it because there are no mph's limits here!!!!
ok, will check the compressor and lets see!
Thansk again, need the help from strangers on internet!
