What does the limited slip actually do? I'm not familiar of what it is or what it does. Does it help with traction? Can I add a locker To a LS diff. or do I have to take the LS out?????????
limited slip is where it one tire still spins but the other one moves alittle bit at a time. just a bit better than open dif (good for mostly the street driven vehicle). a locker is a device where one tire spins a little you hear a big kalunck and the wheels turn at the same speed.
um... I never heard of anyone doing this it can probably be done like you said taking the limited slip out and throwing the locker in.
A limited slip differential uses a clutch assembly to connect the two rear axle shafts inside the differential housing. The clutches make sure that both axles (and both wheels) get equal power at all times, yet they also allow the axles to slip a bit during cornering. Lockers accomplish the same thing using a ratchet-type setup istead of clutches. They make a distinctive clicking sound when cornering. To istall a locker, you would first remove the limited slip differential assembly. Here's a great page with a ton of info and great illustrations:
