Well, I have had this problem from day 1, always ignored it and never thought about it untill last weekend.
Over the weekend I was at kids event.. during that time I had a few youngsters sitting in the seat of the truck, one of them put the emergency break on, but not hard, just enough for it to lock (I didnt notice untill later, read on)
I never put the E-break on unless im on a hill, bad habit, but oh well, so when I was pulling out of the park I was at, never thought much about it, went on my way and drove some 30 km, when I hit the highway, I noticed the truck was shuddering, couldnt figure it out.. when I pulled over, I could smell my break, after some thinking, it clued in, my parking break was on.. Opps.
Why didnt I notice it pulling out? Well.. seems I have no parking break light in the dash. BUT, when I start it, and it goes through the light check, its there, bright as should be.
So, Were the hell should I start looking for the problem? Is there a sensor somewere?
mine does that once and a while. I always engage the parking brake and on a few occassions the brake light doesn't go on, I don't know why but i think its a common problem on all these trucks.

I use the parking brake all the time, never had this problem.
Hi all,
My parking brake light didn't always work either; Now that I use it daily it seems to always work.
You should use you parking brake weekly or the cable could cease the next time you need it & lock your brake drum. I had the driver side cable replaced due to the lack of use.
My light just started not to come on. It also comes on during the system check at start up but not with the brake applied. I think it is a sensor or something like that cause when I noticed it I kicked the parking brake pedal with my foot lightly and it flashed so I put a steady pressure on it and it came on. The next time I applied the brake though it didnt come on. Dont really matter to me I know when the brake is on or offf and out of habit I always pull the release before I start out. (m5od)
I should probably get in the habit of using it, but yeah, I imagine a sensor somewere, but I guess im just going to have to get under it and take a look and do some tracing.
Also, Somone was talking about the seazing up, not the problem, but break still works as it should.
I hope somone can still tell me were this sensor is???
I seem to recall on my old mazda(ranger) there was a switch the upper part of the ebrake pedal pushed in to turn the light on. I believe I replaced it twice before I figured out it was slipping out of adjustment. It was sliding in the mounting hole far enough away from the upper part of the ebrake so that it didn't engage unless the ebrake was pushed as far as it would go.
