'85 miles per tank
I have an '85 w/a 4.9, finally got it running again and I'm planning and 8-hour road trip next week. Actually its a move trip. My truck has the typical fuel gauge (unreliable) and i was wondering how many miles you guys get on a tank. I know my '77 isn't very good on gas, and if the last trip I took is any indication, the '85 is the same way. should i just stop every 100-120 miles? I bought a '79 460 truck from a guy, came with a gas can in the back, and he said "it gets 120 miles to the tank." well, sure neough, at 119 I ran out. Is the I-6 about as thirsty?

I have a 86 I6 man 4x4 3.08 that make 17mpg unload at a cruising speed of 55mph, so with a 19gal tank I can make a little more then 320 miles (I do a lot less at higher speeds !) ... I have an autonomy of a little more than 600 miles with my two tanks ! (On a 9 hour trip with a 18 foot caravan, a motocross and a lot of stuff it did 13.2mpg at 55mph always) (btw, I also know that there are pick-ups with 16gal tanks, so be carefull !)
