Is the sheet metal shield that goes in between your intake and the top of the block important? I just re-assembled my engine and forgot to put it back in. If it isnt neccessary, I will just leave it out.
it is neccessary , it keeps the oil from hiting the exhaust cross over and causing carbon which will fall off and clog the oil pick up screen or wear out some bearings carbon is a bad thing for a engine it is very abrasive and wears parts out fast when i pulled my junkyard 352 apart someone left out the splash shield and there was about 2 inches or build up and pieces the size or marbles in the valley of the engine and the pick up screen was clogged
If you're using an aftermarket intake manifold without the exhaust crossover, you're probably OK without it. Otherwise, yes, it is a definate necessity. In any case, put it in on a rebuild if you have it.
Well since the Edelbrock RPM intake doesn't have the exhaust crossover, you probably dont need it. It would be good to keep some oil off the front and rear intake seals though. So while it's not a necessity with that intake, it would be a good thing to have.
