Automatic Transmission Shifter Problem

Truck was driving fine yesterday. Pulled into a loading dock to load up. After done, I noticed the shifter was stiff when I pulled it out of park. Then I noticed that it wouldn't shift back into park and all the detents were 1 position off. Park is reverse, R is neutral, N is drive etc. And 1 is nothing (hard stop).

I looked at the linkage under the truck but it didn't look like it had slipped. Could it be the shift collar on the column? Something inside the trans? Ideas?

Could be cab mounts. Tweak the body enough and the shifter linkage gets messed up. Take a look at them and see if they're crushed or rusted apart.

Sounds like your steering column head destructed. Mine did the same thing a few years ago while traveling through Canada. I was able to get a new one from a Ford dealer as soon as i got back into the states. Its not hard to change but requires a lot of patience. Pull the steering wheel and look down in there. Look for cracks and broken pieces, if so, that is your problem. Good luck

Could be a broken motor mount or tranny mount. Just went thru this on my 1979 F100.
