Nothing easy about a total overhaul. It's hard, time consuming work but very satisfying when finished. I just about finished a frame off rebuild of an 85 (tore it down far enough that my wife was able to help me tote the frame outside to sandblast).

Some suggestions:
  • Take lots of pictures before disassembling things
  • Use seperate zip lock bags or plastic containers to hold bolts and things when disasssembling for each item took apart and label (Water pump bolts in one bag, fender bolts in one bag etc) This makes putting things back together much easier.
  • Use masking tape and a magic marker (sharpie preferred on a ford) to label wire connectors and vacumn lines as to where they go.
  • Round up plenty of help for the bigger jobs ( cab and bed are heavy) before starting them.
  • Expect to spend more than you thought
  • Take your time and do it right the first time.
  • Know where you want to end up before you start. If you plan to go EFI or change engines, etc it is usually easier to do as you go along then put everything back together then try to switch.
