LAST EDITED ON 21-Sep-01 AT 03:36 PM (EST)[p]I am startting to really think the media is causing more fear in people than there really is. I have argued againest my sister who is a journalist over this. The media causes recession and we as Americans worried about our country as it is already. Because we all know this new kind of war is not just abroad it is in every country everywhere. But I think the media is somewhat to blame on the hate crimes happening againest Islum and Muslum religions and all the LEGITIMATE AMERICANS from the far east
example the man here in Mesa AZ who shot in a drive by shooting
because he wore a turban. The man who did this also drove to another gas station that was owned by an AMERICAN of far east heritage and shot it up also. I know everytime I watch the pictures, and cuts from speeches over and over being imprinted into our minds by the media I get angry. But I think the media is startting to really push AMERICANS to the edge.
Am I the only one that feels like this???????
I am x-military and all this hits me right in the heart but the media keeps showing the pictures and speech cuts over and over and over I couldn't let it build up anymore and actually broke down and cried in front of my children and they ask me what is wrong and my 6yr old daughter asks my wife what is wrong with daddy,, why is daddy crying and what is going to happen to us (as AMERICANS)??????,,,,,, HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN THIS TO OUR KIDS LIKE A 6YR OLD?????????

THE MEDIA
The media wants only to sell papers, fill quotas, and run newsreel. Never have they wanted to care about the people that they say they represent. The Media wants to do many things that are not good for us, and in this terror, the media is not helping any recovery or war effort. The media objects to the gagging they are suffering, and think they should be able to tell the world what the troops are doing, and where they are going. The media cannot see that to do that, they are giving help to the evil minded people who caused our sorrow. I am hoping that some good will come from this, in that people will no longer think that the media is a good guy, there to help them, then maybe we will get to keep our guns.

THE MEDIA
I agree with the previous views.
Yes, the media seems to sell by pinpointing out fears.
I would only like to add that the freeedom of our press (media), regardless of the intended or unintended consequence, is only one of the things that separate us from our enemies.
Our Constitution guarantees us our freedoms. It is up to us how we use them.
As constituent's of a free government, it is up to us to form our our own opinions and act acordingly.

I am generally a huge cynic when it comes to the media. I believe it's primarily leftist and extremely biased. However, I must say that for once, I think they've been doing a good job for the most part. Profit has been set aside in many instances. 2-3 days of news programming without commercials equals millions of dollars in lost revenue.
Anchor men and women are talking about prayer for the first time in who knows how long, free public service ads are being given to the Red Cross and other charitable organizations, major Internet ad networks are asking sites to run free ads for the Red Cross (FTE is participating in this), and more..... Most biased (though not all) and one-sided reporting has been put aside and the press is rallying behind our president (first time I can remember them rallying behind a Republican).
Host of "Polically Incorrect", Bill Meyer, a Libertarian with leanings to the left, lost his show because he stood up for the military saying that holding hands and singing God Bless America wouldn't be enough --- that it would require enormous sacrifice and support of our armed forces. Some people took offense to the way he said it and ABC pulled the plug. Last night, he said good-bye to his audience, stating that standing up for what's right is more important than, "some damn TV show that means nothing". Then he went on to say that his family, friends and his country meant more to him than keeping his job. I've never liked Bill Meyer, and didn't care for his views.... but I gained a great deal of respect for him last night....
Tonight, 27, yes, 27, major TV/cable networks are running a tribute and fund raiser for 2 hours WITHOUT commercial interruption as I type this. If you aren't watching it... I recommend you do. Tom Petty's "I Won't Back Down" and Neil Young's rendition of John Lennon's "Imagine" just were sung... WOW... Bring tissues....

You have a computer, and so you've an option;
Watch the media "SPIN" or look for the information yourself.
I agree that the media is biased, and we should be very careful to be alert to it. But in this all I see one thing clearly:
There are those who care so little about life itself, that they would throw away as many as they can.
Myself personally - I don't give a crap what religion they claim to be acting for, and really I don't think true islamics beleive in their trash either.
I can see only this -
Whoever they are, and wherever they are -
They must be found and STOPPED.
May they present themselves in hell with their excuses, and see how well they work there

What news sources do all of you consider to be the most accurate? Whenever something is in the news that I really want to get info on, I use as many sources as possible. Since last tuesday I've searced out a dozen newspaper's online, been checking in all all the major network's web sites, and watching more CNN than I ever thought possible. I've even been checking in regularly on news sikes in Pakistan, Afganistan, Iraq, etc. to see some opinions from the other side. Most of these sites carry a lot of articles from American papers, but there are some from thier point of view. Like I said, as many sources as possible.
KPayne,
I caught the music special. Absolutely wonderfull. Alot of the musicians on it were people I'd never listen too, but they all sounded great tonight. I'd have to say Tom Petty was my favorite. Even Fred Durst(who I can't stand) singing the addaptation of Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here"(which I love) sounded great! Music really is great medicine!

Bill Mayer is on tonight also. Did he get his show back or something? Sounds like hes really sorry for something. I'm not paying a whole lot of attention, ofcoarse. I don't like him either.

Didn't watch last night. On Thursday he said that Friday would probably be his last show so he was taking the opportunity to say what needed to be said while he still had a chance.
As to what news I watch, usually Fox. Its about the most even handed. I also like watching Ted Kopple late at night. He leans to the right and I think it's why the network moved him to the 11:30 to mid-night slow instead of prime time.

Bill Maher was on Leno last night. The story is that on his 9/17 show he made a statement that was interpereted as critical of the military. He was chastised for it and explained that he was actually criticizing the policy makers , i.e. politicians, not the military. He didn't mention losing the show.
THE MEDIA
Well said Ken. I am confused though. I was under the impression that Bill Maher had stated our military was cowardly for launching missiles from 2000 miles away (referencing clintons token cruise missile attacks) and that the terrorists were brave for crashing the planes into the WTC towers. That is what Drudge reported. After reading his comments about our military, I am Glad that he no longer has a show!
Am I the only one who is grateful that we have a president with True Grit? Can you imagine what would be transpiring right now if Sore/Loserman were in office right now?
God Bless America
United We Stand, Decimated They Fall!

My god! What a thought...
If Gore were in office, they'd be doing an environmental impact study on the WTC grounds, before making any decisions that might be "risky ventures"...

Bill Maher didn't lose his show. He clarified his statement that he had made on 9/17 and apologized for it. I don't always agree with Bill Maher but he does have an excelent show. Although he takes to many comercials!

THE MEDIA
I must say that the Media has come a long way with there coverage but I am very concerned that they do not say too much when it comes to our military plans or the locations of our Pres. and other higher ups. Let us not forget that the enemy has a TV also. I can't believe that our Media actually talks about where we take our Pres. when in time of crises or certain plans our military has for attack. Things like that we really do not need to broadcast across the world.
