My weiner headed insurance guy (the one that hassled me about the wood stove in garage) is now using scare tactics to get me to buy more liability insurance for vehicles. Says i need to have a million liability or I'll need to send my mail to Bolivia; 'cause if I'm in an accident that's where I'll have to move to.
With the province having no fault insurance i have $200,000 liability for the person's physical healing. The extra million dollars is for if i damage someone's property....ie drive into their house.
Well.....I'm not so sure i need to give these clowns anymore of my money than i need to, so what do other people have for insurance ?
Am i on borrowed time here being "under insured" ?
Now this is for property insurance I presume. Our SGI already covers your vehicle insurance. I deal through brokeage firms and they search for the best deal for insurance, you do not have to pay them, they get paid by the firms that they sell you insurance to.
This extra insurance is on the vehicles that he is trying to sell you. You do not have to buy from him. Maybe check here in other forums or the sponsor ads to see what they provide for coverage and their rates.
Hi laynrubber what he maybe talking about is more liability in case some one gets injuried from an accident that you are invovled in. They may sue for more than SGI will cover you for. Persons with Tort(spelling?) or out of province can sue for damages, pain and suffering. A second opinion could clear things up. Go on SGI`s web site or another agent to find out what can happen. I found with any type of insurance that there are too many loop holes, they love to collect but hate to payout and you are never covered for what you expect. I pray that I don`t find out the hard way, probably can`t afford all the insurance that I require!
I was involved in an accident once and the other party was severely injured --> the claim was well over the $200,000 mark but I could never find out the real amount. The lawyers have this one pretty well screwed up (just like in the U.S.). Anyone running a business knows full well how much insurance you need and my advice on liability is be sure to have enough. I always error on the high side but I am too scared of losing my *** if something were to happen.
Years ago 200K would be fine for liability and that was all I would carry. With the price of vehicles, buildings, and the chance to sue getting more inticing (sp?) for a lot of people the $7.00 extra a yr on my insurance to carry 1 mil liability is peace of mind. Though, I'm not willing to go to 2 mil. That seems pointless.
