Talking Trouble

OK OK This post will probably get me/us in trouble in a hurry so pay attention.

This thread is relevant to the V10 forum for the simple reason that I believe that you must be fully informed. Some times here we discuss the relative merits of a 5.4 Gas, 6.8 Gas vs a 7.3 PSD or the 6.0 PSD.

There is a great discussion over on the "other site".

I do not suggest any of us getting in the middle of it.

But within the discussion are many great and useful facts posted by some wise fellers.

Lots of info like WrenchTraveler and Fredvon4 have been trying to say right here in the V10 and SuperDuty forums.

Take a read of the first post, and then the rest of the first page, paying strict attention to the concepts "Hoss_350" presents.... I assure you that some lights will pop on in your head and illuminate a common thought that many of use here have been trying to present.

I can not get my link to work

Be quick, be quiet or... Monsta or CaptChas will have to lock and delete if we get to gloating too much and slip in a anti PSD post or two (grin)

Thanks. Those were some very well written posts. It all makes sense when you think about it. It all comes back to physics. The mechanical stress on an engine increases exponentially as its speed increases. As an example, assume that velocity is measured in ft/sec. That means that acceleration is measured in ft/sec^2, which in turn means that jerk (I think that is what its called) is measured in ft/sec^3. "Jerk" is an instantaneous change in direction - like a jackhammer. This is the force that the bottom end of an engine is subjected to as a piston reaches the top (or bottom) of its stroke and starts downward (or upward). By only slightly increasing the speed of an engine, the stress on it is increased greatly. This is one of the reasons that as an engine's rated speed is increased, its internal components must also be strengthened to handle the added stress.

This should get you to the forums, then click on the towing forum, and finally go to this post, very interesting reading, Ken

Very Interesting. All of the diesels that I use at work (most 3 cylinder) are very low revving engines. If I climbed into a 6.0 powered truck......I would be exactly like boss_350. So that explains why most of the 6.0 I see driving around go screaming by me. Meanwhile the V10 just goes about its buisness calm and quiet like.

Thanks Fred, I am still a member over there as you know but some of the other V10 guys don't know that I was Diesel Don over there since 99 and I now l post once in a while as Diesel Gone. I had to thank Hoss for that great info so I added a little info of my own.
