OK, here's one for the experts on this wonderful forum. (BS'er) I've got a 71CS, with totaly screwed up aux tank/valve/switch. I was thinking of replacing the valve that switches between tanks with a more modern year. NPD has a switch for a 75-79 and a valve for a 78-79. Do you guys think this might be a good set-up? I tried the earlier year forum and got one negative. Thought I'd try you guys. How's your set-up been working? Thanks for the help...........jim
I replaced my tank selector valve on my '75 with an aftermarket unit from the local auto parts store. No need to go with a Ford unit here that I can see.
The literature suggests to put an inline fuel filter in before the inlet to keep dirt out of the valve for longer life and trouble free operation. Works for me, no problems.
I have always had problems with the Ford aux tank electric switches. I went to NAPA and bought a manual switch and mounted it through the floor board just to the left of the drivers seat. If I need to switch tanks I can very easily reach down and manually turn the valve to the other tank. I have been doing this for twenty years with no problems.
Always put a filter before any switching devices. It is just good practice.
