After changing spark plugs to hopefully remedy a pinging problem my 99-2.5l manual 5-speed, The engine ran really rough after cold start-up for a minute or two and has continued to do so for about 1 week. Probing around I pulled the vac line off the EGR and engine smoothed right out. I cleaned egr and components(which helped some) but still starts out rough? After it's warm it runs good, pinging is much better than before, but can't understand the rough start. Any Ideas? Jim (almost senior user) Thanks
OK; I took my 99-2.5 to Schucks auto supply this morning for a free Scan and nothing showed up. They will scan and print out results for free!!!
The guy said that if it's intermittent(SP?) it won't show unless I get a diagnostic scan done somewhere. I think maybe a scan during a cold start may show something. I need to make friends with someone who has a diagnostic scanner I guess or fork over the $$$ and take it to a shop. And By the way I did gap the spark plugs correctly; they were pretty close out of the box and I only had to tweak about four of them slightly.
I might add that rough Idle this morning did not last more than a few seconds and was even less noticable after work. Maybe a little cussing is good for a Ranger? It made me feel better! Thanks Jim
