Hey all, just truned 40k and noticed pinging at low speeds up hills in 3rd gear, goes away after dropping to 2nd or i.e. from OD to 3rd. Was running on 87 when this happend, dropped in some stp jet fuel octane booster and filled up with 91 and the problem has stopped, now since gas is 2.69 for 91 and 2.45 for 87, i would perfer to run on 87 but just cant stand the ping, i was once told a equate a pinging to a sledge hammer hitting your piston, every time you hear a ping think of that....wow is this a myth or what? i have also read here that pulling the battery lead off for 30 mins or so to rest the comp will help??? will it?? of course the dealer says bring it in we will look at it....this same dealer wants $ 831.00 for a tune up!!! the dealer did give me some free adivce..he said possible problem is clogged fuel filter? any thoughts? cant afford to keep it on 91 oct.
do your self a favor and go into user cp and make a sig. up that way every one can see what you have by moving a mouse pointer over it.
as to your pinging if you can access a code scanner. it just may show a knock senser malfunction or lean mixture with could possibly be that fuel filter or a vacume leak. even a bad mass air senser. at any rate looking for a possible code is a starting point for us dealer tech's good luck i hope it's simple
