33 inch tires and 3.08 rear end?
Hello all,
I have a 1995 F150 2wd 4.9L 5 spd manual with a 3.08 gear ratio. Right now I am running 31X10.5X15 and I seem to have enough power and everything. I was going to put in a 6 in ProComp lift some time later in the year and move up to the required 33 inch tires. This is purely for looks. So my question is, will I still have enough power for regular driving purposes given the larger tires and the weak gearing? Almost all my driving is freeway driving and I do no towing, though I occasionally load up the bed of my truck with stuff--as happens with trucks. There are also some hills around and I want to be able to at least maintain freeway speed going up grades in 4th gear when driving locally or on trips. Will I still be able to? Right now, 5th gear won't really hold my speed up certain hills, but 4th gear always does.
Thanks,
Zach

3.08's are at the limit for 33 inch tires, but that depends on how you drive your truck. The 300 inch 6 has lots of low end torque and can tolerate high gearing.
I'd stick with the 3.08's and see how they work out. As long as you do not have to slip the clutch and are happy with the power don't worry about changing them. If you need more power, go with 4.11's.

Good news! I was hoping to hear that. As I said, I do 90% of my driving on the freeway. Would 5th gear and the tires actually _help_ with gas mileage? I figure that the width on the tires hurts, but my rpms in 5th gear at 75mph which about what I always drive at will be lower. Doesn't really matter. It won't be happening until later this year anyways after I save some money up. Thanks!
