I have a '67 f100 with the standard insturment cluster most of you have in your own trucks. I pulled an instrument cluster from a '67 F600 i found at a local junk yard (inspired from ebay) to replace my original.
My question is the tach from the F600 used some sort of mechanical tachometer instead of an electrical one. Does anybody know where i can find an electrical tach that looks like the one used originally (i want it to match the speedometer).
The guy on ebay took the tach out of his (i guess he didn't want people leaving negative feedback when they couldn't hook up the tach). I'm sure someboday makes one that would fit.
I knew somebody made aftermarket gauges that would match the original guages. I'll definatley check into that.
I found a few websites that will convert your tach for you (and clean it up) but they want around 200.00, and thats more than i want to pay for a tach.
I did go back and see how the mechanical tach worked, it plugged into the gear on the distributer, just below the cap there was a special place on the neck the tach plugged into.
I am doing the same thing, the hole is 3 3/4 any tach that size will work. I just got one off ebay with shipping for under $18.00 it was a sun super tach 2
THe bare dash brings $20.00 to $60.00 depending on who is bidding if you have the whole dash with guages I have seen them go as high as $360.00 but thats show quality!
does anybody know of a kit you can buy to switch it from mechanical to electric? these specialty places charge lots of cash to do it, but it doesn't seem like it would be all that difficult.
It's also been hard to find an aftermarket replacement that looks like the original. I had no luck with JC Whitney

Sweet! Everything is in them and they work perfectly. They do need sanding and re-painting though.
Well the ones I have seen that went for that much were new old stock never installed. Thats show quality! I would clean and paint and put a reserve price of $125. 00 and I would tell in my discription what the reserve price is!
