if you check my gallery, i put a flatbed on my 88. i used 3 4 inch peices of piping, and then 2 by 8s, with 2 by 10 on the egdge, just to make it the right size. ive hauled 1500 pounds of steel on this bed with no problem. the pipes were free from the local scrap yard, i pointed them out and the crane operater grabed them for me, because im friends with the owner. the wood and hardware ran me 140, including some sealer, and its all pressure treated, and besideds the pipe, has two 2 by 8s holding the bolds laterally. ive got 6 bolt in each board, and they hold good.

Looks like the direction I'd like to head... maybe slightly taller sides, capture stock lights, etc... But it sounds like the theory is sound.
