The Ford Interchange book does have one mistake in the chart on page 47 under 289ci 1963-67 where it lists the intake valve size of the C6OE as 1.78". However, on page 40 under 289 it states that several castings, including the C6OE had 1.67/1.45 valves. Go figure! I have read several other sources claiming that the Hi-Po head was the only one with 1.78" intakes. So I actually measured an intake from a C6OE-M head I have, and got 1.67"...this may be a fluke, but I don't think so.

I have some E6SE heads available to put on my truck and planned on pocket porting them, but didn't want to put the time and money into them if they wouldn't much over the heads on there now. The E6SE heads have been milled (I don't know how much) and have pedestal-style rockers. I know these heads have around 62.9-65.9cc chambers and could be smaller due to the milling. They may need to be nueralized (not sure on spelling there but that's not a big deal to me. Let me know what you think.

Hi, Erik.

I have those E6SE heads on my 86 Mustang GT with the HO 5.0. I'm pretty happy with their performance. I've heard a lot of yada yada about using the E7TE heads, but the E7's are open chamber. The E6's are very closed chamber, a high swirl design. They're advertised as 68cc's. They should work fine on your 80 block, but be aware that the valves sit higher and might need longer pushrods.

I'm thinking of using a pair of E6 heads on a 351w for a truck. I'm planning for high torque, decent mileage.

The valve stems on E6SE heads are shorter and thus, use the same length pushrods as the E7's. If you're going to use E6's on a 351, at least open up the exhaust side, that in itself should gain you some mileage. ( that goes for E7's and any other small block head)

You've just listed ONE of the many mistakes in that book. Those books are fine as a reference, but I've seen too many mistakes and conflicting information in them to take any of the info in them as gospel.

The most accurate book for small blocks I've run across is Ford's "Official 5.0 Mustang" book by Al Kirschenbaum, but it unfortunately doesn't list any specs for the earlier, pre 79 small block stuff.
