86 AOD trouble?

hello, I just bought an 86 broncoXLT 302 EFI with the AOD tranny. the Bronco sat for a few years, how long? i dont no. threw in new plugs, and wires, with some fresh gas, and she runs awesome. Except the tranny, while driving she shifts gears hard, you cant hear it, but you feel it! one more thing, she will only go into overdrive, when i let off on the gas at around 50, 55, but as soon as I touch the gas, she pops out??? time for a rebuild???? or can I save her with some work.
Thanks, William

the guys at Napa said the tranny just needs to be drivin. that it's all gummed up from sitting for years, so Im goning to take that chance, and clean her out and drive her around a bit be for I hit the ORV trails

you might check the throttle pressure linkage adjustment.

I agree with Rclarke. The throttle pressure linkage probably needs adjustment. My 90 Bronco did the same thing and I found that the throttle pressure linkage cable had "sprung" apart at the throttle body end. After I adjusted it the transmission shifted easier and went into overdrive and stayed there when I wanted it to. Your 86 should have hard linkage instead of a cable though.
