Weird Wiper Problems....

My dad got a "new" 99 F150 about a month ago and has a weird problem. Maybe someone else has had it and can help me out.

Sometimes when he turns his blinker on, or sometimes when just driving down the road his delay wipers will turn on. This is not a consistent problem. I have seen it happen 3 times in a matter of five minutes or not happen for a whole weekend.

Is it the multi-function switch or something else? Any ideas?

I think its the multifuntion switch in the column. Mine is going bad too. There never seems to be a pattern when I turn my wipers on. I can turn them on slow and they will go at random. Also I have to play with my turn signals to get them to work. Oh and if I want windshield washers to work, I have to turn the left blinker on.....

People look at you funny when you cant seem to make up your mind if you wanna turn left or not

Well, everything works perfectly fine except what I said above. My dad is getting frustrated, especially when it isn't raining!

Haha yea. That would be the first thing I would check. Take it out and check the contacts, see if there worn or bent or something.

I had the same problem on my s-10. The connections were loose on the wiper motor

I'd check the connections in the steering column. i had the same problem on my 99 and it ended up being just some lose connections in the steering column.

My dad took the truck in the other day (he didn' tell me first) and they replaced the multi-function switch. Problem gone.
