A while back ( about 2 yrs. ago ) I posted about a severe front end shimmy on an 01 F250 superduty 2wd. I got a lot of good suggestions about what to check but I could never find anything wrong. I never gave any thought to it being in the steering box because the truck was new and not too many miles on it when the problem started but the problem has persisted all this time . Recently I decided to check the adjustment on the steering box and after making a slight adjustment the shimmy is gone , along with the bump steer, and the front end feels as solid as when I first drove the truck off of the dealers lot.
I just adjusted the steering box free play ( adjuster located on top of steering box ), you have to do it with the front wheels off of the ground and pointed straight ahead and turn the adjuster down until you feel a very slight resistance in the steering wheel in the center position ( wheels straight ). After I did this when I run over a road surface with ripples the truck doesn't try to pull any but stays steady as a rock and also it eleminated all the shimmy that I had been experiencing. Hope this is helpful.
