tuners ??????

do these ever cause your check engine light to come on? is there a safe mode on the tuner to run without gauges? or should a guy buy one that has the gauge in it? i tow a pretty good size camper 12000 lbs and want a little more poop for the 37s i plan on installing and want to be able to adjust the speedo

sorry dude... i wrestled with this one too... you want a tuner.. plug and play.. more power... but... i pull almost as much as you do.. and everyones says the same thing...GET GAUGES FIRST....! you've got an awesome motor in your mule, but you need real info on what it is doing while you are towing... if you want to get a tuner and play with your stock set up when it's empty.. fine... you probably won't melt any pistons... but towing that much... i want gauges even though i am still stock... so i ordered some... i wanted to play with a predator tuner.. but i do NOT want to have to replace this motor for a long long time... so ... gauges are on the way...! Sorry to be a killjoy.. but you gotta be smart about these things..!

Ditto, get gauges first. Its good insurance. Then you can play all day with any tuner or chip you get, and not have to worry about whats going on, because all you have to do is check the guages. If you do heavy towing, I think guages should be a must for even stock setups.

it sucks when EVERYONE tells you what you have to do... you KNOW that they are right and they're just telling you like it is... but you just WANT TO PLAY WITH YOUR TRUCK...!

Ditoo...guages....ESPECIALLY if you dont do exhaust, intake, wicked wheel, and power elbow first. I have all the bolt ons, and I run a stage 4 Big-Hoss and a 6-gun stacked on it and it lives at lvl 6...and empty.....I never have EGT issues. I will start using my trailer in the next few weeks, so I'll see if the 6-gun needs turned down. But for a guy thats going to get a tuner and run it past the tow-safe level....and he is going tow...he is begging for problems. My fathers 99.5 F-350 uses a Superchips tuner but never past the tow safe program. He does not have ANY mods, no guages...and has 90K miles, half of them pulling a 13K lb trailer. He plays the game safe as he can. Stay conservative. If you are going to do the high power programing, you have no choice really, get guages...or get burned. And if you get burned you may scream to all that will listen that you wronged, but inside you will know that you were warned repeatedly by those that know. Take it at face value.....get guages or roll the dice every time you tow with a hot program.
