Leveling question

2001 F150 XL Flareside. 5800 GVWR if I remember correctly. 4.2, 5 speed. Anyway, I am looking into leveling the truck by lowering the rear. I do not want to do anything if it is going to affect the function (read load-bearing capability) of the truck. Therefore, what options do I have for keeping the tail from dragging so badly after leveling? I looked at air springs, but wonder if there is a less costly alternative. Thanks!

No, if anything, I would like to lower the entire truck but I do not want to lose any front suspension travel. Plus, I've leveled it with weight in the back, and it looks very nice that way and it's about the perfect ride height for me. I've always had the 4x4 look with all my previous trucks but with this one I want one a little more street and highway friendly.

Is there factory lift blocks in the rear? If so maybee you can find some smaller ones. Or raise your shakles on the rear.

I am probably going to use shackles if I do it. I just don't want to lose any payload capacity, so that is where my dilemma lies. I don't know if there are any other options other than air bags in the rear to help keep the truck from dragging under a load once I level the back end.
