Problems starting!
I just bought a new Holly Carb for a 360 on my 73 pick-up. When the engine is cold, I start it and it runs then dies, if I keep pressing on the gas pedal (for atleast 3 minutes) the engine won't die. After that it the engine runs at around 600 RPM.
After the engine is warm and I try to accelerate the engine, it starts to make a hissing sound and seems like it wants to backfire/die. Also when I put it in drive ( RPM is at 500) the engine starts to hesitates/stalls and dies, I restart the engine again and it runs. I check the plugs and they had carbon deposits on it, I cleaned those with a brush and recap them. I've been thinking if the idle is low? I thought it was a vacuum leak, but the lines seem fine, but I'm still going to replace them just incase.
On a side note, the EGR valve/plate has never been connected before so could I remove it and place the carb right on the manifold? Also the carb has a manual choke and its not hooked up ( didn't buy the kit yet), but I set the screw so that the throttle plate was opened about maybe less than 1/4.
