I mean that it's suspicious that there are so many "accidents". I work in the oil industry, I know how important safety is, so it amazes me that so many people have had the same accident over and over again.
No one is going to prove to me that the oil companies are doing anything less then ripping us off big time. Most likely their saving that stash of money because so many people are trying to come up with alternative fuels and electric and hybrid vehicals now. This should have been done decades ago before the oil companies had us completely at their mercy. I have some old Machanics Illustrated mags from the 50's that show these electric cars that some guys built, but battery technology wasn't as it is today and they had to carry a half a ton of batteries onboard that didn't hold a charge long enough to make it reasonable. I don't know why R&D wasn't kept up on those projects back then. If it had, by now, electric vehicals would probably be the norm and gas would be a lot cheaper.
How many more threads are we going to run whining about the price of gas and post therioes on why without doing some research on why and how world fuel prices are set and regulated by opec .
Geographic locations and taxes do certainly dictate the final retail price of gas but this can be avoided by simply moving to a country where you will earn $1.80 US a day and drive your Ford on roads not fit for donkies etc.
North American fuel prices have been kept artifically low in relation to our economy for so long that some of us now think they have been real .
Compare your gallon of gas to a gallon of milk or or other liquid product we use like whiskey God forbid and see where we stand .
Also as I have posted before , BP Energy and Royal Dutch Shell are , and always have been the biggest investors in all alternative energy sources so like it or not folks they will always be holding the aces . We now pay almost $1.00 Can. for bottled drinking water when we possess 65 % of the worlds fresh water and it will not make energy for anything but my body to operate . Apples and oranges are sometimes comparable in this fashion when related to commodities that are neccesary in everyday life .
Oil company profits should also be related to the capital investments in this area on a % basis to actually get a clear picture of what the return on the investment comes in at . My gas and oil shares are certainly not going to be the bulk of my retirment income when I retire but Kellogs might be .
