Question Questions About A 96

The 99 I looked at was sold before I could get back to the dealer. So I kept looking and found a 96 1 ton, with 62k, auto, 2 wheel drive, drw. I am not yet sure about the rear ratio. Is anybody familiar with any problems or things I should be concerned about? I know the trans is a possible problem. If I got the truck I would probably have the heavy duty valve box put in, or add a trans command, to firm up the shift. It started up well, but I did not drive it yet. I wouldn't think with 62k there would be much wrong with it. How about all the electrical gizmos? My 90 IDI doesn't have all that stuff. I was on my way from one job to another when I found it, and will go back Monday. The truck was at a small dealer, and has no records of repairs or maintenance. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

I have a 96 4X4 SC with 208,000 miles and she is running strong. I recently changed the alt, serpentine belt and water pump. Best truck I ever had, fule mileage is around 19MPG with the Nappa air filter.

RussP,
Thanks for the reply. What rear ratio do you have? Do you have an auto trans, and if so did you have trouble with it?

I have a 1996 F250 2WD automatic with the 3.55's. Great power and it's a tank. I haven't had any major problems with it. It is a little hard to start in the winter time so I'm going to replace the glow plug relay and the glow plugs and I think that I'm also having an issue with the CPS. But other than that I love this truck, even more so after I got the Superchips Microtuner.
