1) What kinda fuel economy do these get? I intend on either converting this truck over to a 4x4 or using the engine in another truck.
2) What common issues do they have? Are they lemons?
3) Weight.. I have another rig with a straight six gasser in it that I might convert to diesel. Is the 6.9 as heavy as a cummins L6?
Im looking at a Cummins 4BT too... but its a couple grand more. One of my buddies convert his 4x4 to the 4BT.. he gets 15-19mpg city and up to 27mpg highway running 33x12.50's 4.10 gears and standard transmission.
Stick around someone will be by shortly to answer your question.

2) head gaskets , glow plugs , burning oil(alittle bit), and if you have an older 6.9 don't use the block heater it could crack the block. I'd say its nowhere near a lemon.
3) a complete drop in 6.9 wieghts around 1000lbs
that 4 cylinder is not far off from being half the size of the 6.9 plus the 6.9 a N/A and not designed to handle alot of boost with its high compression of 22.5 to 1. unless you put an intercooler on it going over 12psi doesn't do anything(or somthing else to cool down the charge).
